Disaster Day #2

Friends, Strangers, Loved Ones,

The worst has truly happened.
It's hard to comprehend this thing,
Difficult to understand exactly how history could be repeating itself so horrifically,
How this bad joke could have gotten so out of hand.
Perhaps we are to blame -
With every click on his interviews, videos, websites,
And every laugh at the things he said,
Every time we talked about him to each other
We fed into his machine and gave him a terrible power.

These are scary and uncertain times,
But today is today
And there is nothing that we can really do at this particular moment on this day,
Except to live our lives,
To tell our partners, parents, children, friends that we love them,
To come together and support each other,
To throw ourselves into beautiful music,
And drink good coffee,
To go about our work meaningfully because it all matters,
To remember where our homes are
And to hang on to what is right.

We can't really know what lies ahead,
But we can just live today,
Because tomorrow will happen as it wants to anyway.
