Me at 25

I have just celebrated my 25th birthday, and with it has come a few realisations.  Firstly, I am very aware that I am no longer a spring chicken! There are some things that, until now, I've never even given a thought to, but am beginning to find a bit more difficult, like, surviving on next to no sleep, drinking disgusting cheap wine, staying awake through a movie, cutting it extremely fine to make trains and planes so that I can enjoy extra minutes at home... Secondly, I am starting to feel a bit like my life is just passing before me, and I am worried that I will forget what this feels like, right now.

One of the things that I love about my blog is that it's a document, a written record, of my thoughts at this time, for me as much as anyone else who wants to read it, that I can look back at whenever I want.  I like the idea that in 50 years time, I will be able to read these blog posts and laugh at the things that I have written here, or perhaps roll my eyes at what an idiot I once was!  So, I have decided to make a very simple, clear cut, matter-of-fact portrait of what my life is right now, in the hope that in 50 years I will able to see exactly what person I was at this age.  This is me at 25.

This is what I look like.

This is my favourite jumper.

I have a wonderful boyfriend and best friend.

This is how I drink my morning coffee, every day.

These are my wellies - my favourite footwear.  Covered with dogs, my favourite thing ever, and very practical as it rains all the time in Hannover.  I get a few funny looks when I wear them, but I don't mind that!

This is my desk where I sit everyday and work.  My boyfriend got the desk for me when I moved into his place, and I was very excited to put things on it.  I have a selection of nice-smelling candles that I like to burn in the early evenings.  I have a little good-luck bunny that was a gift from my mom a couple Easters ago.  I also have some silly instant photos from last summer, and a little pot with my favourite jewellery in it.  On the other side I keep my invaluble blog notebook, of course it has dogs on it too, a couple of inspiring cards that were given to me to make me feel better in down times, and my favourite yellow lamp.

This is the piece of music that I am practising right now, it's Tchaikovsky.  I don't love it, but it's starting to get fun to play, I am beginning to feel like it's getting into my fingers.  It takes a lot of energy, and I get very tired after I practice.  I am going to go back to work on it as soon as I have finished writing this blog post.

This is what I am currently reading.  I absolutely love Chritopher Hitchens, I love the way he articulates his thoughts and memories.  I am only a little way in, but I am really enjoying it.

These are a couple of my favourite movies.  I adore Lars von Trier, and Danish cinema in general, and this is genius! I must watch it again this summer.  I usually can't stand trashy chick-flicks, but 'Priceless' is a bit different! It't beautiful and luxurious, however it is a bit dangerous to watch as I always end up going shopping after watching...

This is where we keep our record player and records in the house, with a little post card above it which says 'Vinyl only'.  We love to listen to records while we eat dinner and in the evenings.  My favourite ones are Elton John (partially because it's the only one I know all the words to and can sing along), 'Rocky Horror Picture Show', and 'Thank God it's Friday'. I would love to build up our collection, but I have a thing against buying records brand new and expensive from posh stores, and so am waiting to find the gems that are hidden at flea markets and antique shops.

This is my favourite music in the whole world, will always be, and I am 100% dedicated to it!

Here is a selection of my favourite paintings, places and artists; particularly Egon Shiele, Picasso, Montenegro and the Pre-Raphaelites. I collect postcards, everywhere I go, of the things that inspire me and that I want to remember, and I have made a couple of these huge collages out of them.  This one hangs next to my desk so that I can see these everyday - I haven't found the right spot for the other one yet.

This is my beloved dog, Sasha, with 'Draggie' - her favourite toy.  Actually she is really my mom's dog, but she has a very large place in my heart, as with anyone who meets her!

This is how we like to spend our evenings.  We cook meals together - sometimes very fancy ones! - and then we relax under a blanket with a glass of wine.  At the moment we are watching the TV series 'Mad Men' which is so good!
